Looks like he bought his social battery from Temu. I really enjoy the parody on the social battery concept. Hopefully Ralph gets his refund.

Having read it several times now, I'm still in awe that you created a universe of possibilities in a short narrative that is completely relatable. brilliant.

I love this so much! I find writing short stories so hard.. to be able to convey something in so little… but this was inspiring!

The key is to write implicitly! Hemingway was great at this. I'd encourage you to read his short stories :)

I think he bought the wrong battery. I imagine that his wife's preference of Brad had less to do with how social he was in group settings, and more about their connection at other times.

I know I'm reading too much into it, but that was my thought, haha.

I love that, Grant. You're reading exactly the right amount into it. One of the themes I wanted to explore with this piece is how we lean on technology to solve all our problems, and oftentimes, they end up causing more of them. You hit (one of) the nail(s) on the head :)

Your hermit crab series is such a good reminder that impactful storytelling can take any format—in fact, it’s often the unconventional formats and styles that resonate more!

Exactly. No matter the form—whether it’s literature, copywriting, or screenplays—length doesn’t really matter. What actually counts is how fascinating people find your writing. Glad to see my stories are making an impact!

Love the concept. Seems kinda dystopian!

Are our phones simply our social batteries at the moment?

Something to ponder

Very interesting story 🤔 I see in this story an invitation to think about easy, fast solutions from outside of a system. When started the problem with Ralph's wife? Was that not long before he bought his social battery? Was he focusing on the problems or the things he can do? ... There are a lot of open questions and anyone can easily feel the gaps with his/her own life experience, goals, expectations and ways to deal with something. Thank you Jack for an other great story!

Forgot to mention that it is also selling a sort of futuristic fictional service. Quite a bit in common with this one.
